A private club,
on a working piece of land.
Greene Hills was incorporated in 1967 by a group of Greene County families who wanted a private course in their own county. Raymond F. Loving Jr., ASGCA, routed eighteen holes on the property the following year. The course opened in 1968 — par 71, 6,400 yards from the back tees — and has been played continuously since.
The pool came soon after. Then tennis (eventually three pickleball courts, added 2022). The Hills Grille restaurant, with a two-story deck above the eighteenth green. A swim team, the Greene Hills Gators, in the Jefferson Swim League. One of Virginia's largest LGAs. About 79 employees during the season.
Two hundred acres,
where the Piedmont starts to climb.
White oak in the middle of the 7th fairway — preserved since 1968. Eighteenth green faces west, which is why the Grille deck sits over it. Deer cross the 15th. Turkey behind the 7th tee.
